Take-Back Scheme
Like our beehives, our Take-Back Scheme is designed around natural cycles: use, return, renewal. Together with our customers, we are building smarter, more sustainable systems for the future of pharma and bioprocessing.

Take-Back Scheme: Closing the loop on product life cycles
At Strikebox, we understand that sustainability in manufacturing goes beyond efficient production, it includes how products are managed at the end of their useful life. Our Take-Back Scheme is a practical expression of our commitment to the circular economy, focused on reuse, repurpose, and responsible recovery of components and materials used in the bioprocessing and pharmaceutical industries.
The Take-Back Scheme allows our customers to return select products and components to us at end-of-life or after decommissioning, rather than disposing of them through traditional waste channels. The scheme is particularly suited to stainless steel parts, which retain high material value and structural integrity even after initial use.
Returned products and components undergo a careful inspection, disassembly, and sorting process at our facility. Depending on their condition, items are:
- Reused: Cleaned and reprocessed for use in non-critical applications, internal projects, or as functional parts where applicable.
- Repurposed: Components that no longer meet original tolerances may be re-engineered or adapted for alternate applications in production fixtures, R&D, or training use.
- Recycled: Where reuse or repurposing is not possible, materials are directed into verified recycling streams with full traceability, in line with our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
We are acutely aware of our customer’s needs. Bioprocessing and Life Science manufacturing is conducted in high-spec, highly regulated environments. While some parts are designated for single-use due to sterility or GMP restrictions, many components — especially non-contact enclosures, fixtures, or structural elements — have potential for a second life.
Our scheme helps:
- Reduce raw material demand and manufacturing emissions
- Extend the utility of engineered components
- Support our customers’ own ESG goals through traceable reuse/recycling
- Capture valuable learning that informs future product designs with circularity in mind
- Eligibility – Customers identify eligible parts through Strikebox’s approved product list or via consultation.
- Return – We provide safe return handling instructions.
- Assessment – Returned items are assessed for reuse, repurposing, or recycling.
- Reporting – Customers receive a Take-Back Summary including environmental impact metrics (e.g. kg of recycled metal, avoided emissions).
We aim to map take-back data to better inform future product design, with a focus on:
- Designing for disassembly
- Minimising mixed-material assemblies
- Simplifying future reuse
As part of our 2025–2028 sustainability roadmap, we aim to expand the scheme to cover a greater proportion of our manufactured product range.
